GUARANTEE: The American Sign Language (ASL) sign for "guarantee"

There are a couple of ways to sign guarantee.
A common approach is to use the sign commonly labeled as PROMISE to mean "guarantee."

I (Bill) notice though that lately I tend to the contact of the nondominant hand to the dominant wrist rather than to the palm.

Since the PROMISE version of guarantee is a multiple meaning sign -- the specific meaning of "guarantee" is only clear in context. In other words -- the rest of the sentence has to provide enough information for a person to decide that the sign means "guarantee" and not some other concept.

Since PROMISE is a muti-meaning sign that is a reason why the initialized "G"-hand version is still very common. The initialized sign is what I consider to be a "low context" version of the sign. By that I mean, that sign is clear and you can decide the meaning of the sign without context. ASL interpreters should certainly recognize both versions.

Sample sentence for "promise":
HAPPEN YOU PROMISE SOMETHING, LATER YOU ALWAYS PROCEED D-O I-T YOU?"
