IX: The American Sign Language gloss: "IX"

Notes from William G. Vicars, EdD

IX is a short way to type "INDEX" which is a short way to refer to "use your index finger to point at someone, some place, or something as a way of referring to that person, place, or thing.

As time goes on we will probably see more and more use of IX when glossing (writing) ASL related concepts rather than just arbitrarily stating "he."
Personally I enjoy adding the extra information if I am aware of it. For example:
IX-(he)
IX-(she)
IX-(they)
IX-(that person)
IX-(Bob)
IX-(the dog)
