Question:
How do you sign the concept of "online" in American Sign Language (ASL)?
Response:
I personally tend to sign INTERNET to mean "online" however, I have seen a
"significant" number of skilled signers combine "ON" and "LINE" (string /
border) to mean "online."
As an ASL instructor I think I'd put the ON+LINE version of INTERNET-[online] in
the category of "receptive vocabulary." Meaning? I think every IPP student
should be able to "recognize" the combo of ON+LINE but choose to sign INTERNET
when expressing the concept (unless there is some reason to not do so such as
interpreting for an English based exam in which both the words "internet" and
"online" appear in the same sentence).
