Excused Absences:

What is an excused absence?

It is best for a student or instructor to refer to a school's official policy on class attendance which is usually explained in a school's official catalog.

Also, check course syllabi since individual professors may provide specific guidance on what types of absences are excused for a particular course.

1.  University-sanctioned activities: If a student is participating in a university-sanctioned event, such as a sports competition or an academic conference, this absence is usually excused.

2.  Illness or injury: A student might be excused if they are unable to attend class due to illness or injury, particularly if they provide a note from a healthcare professional.

3.  Religious holidays: Absences due to religious holidays are often excused, but students may be expected to inform their instructors in advance.

4.  Family emergencies or bereavement: If a student experiences a family emergency such as a death in the family, the absence is typically excused.

5.  Jury duty or court appearances: Legal obligations such as jury duty or required court appearances can also be a reason for an excused absence.
