American Sign Language: "city"

Also see: Places

Expect to see variation in the ASL sign for "city".

CITY (Version 1)
Reduced movement version:
This is a very common version of the sign for city or town.  It is quick and casual. It doesn't waste time moving to the side.

CITY (version 2)
A somewhat more formal sign for "city" is done by touching the tips your flat hands together as if showing a roof top. Separate them slightly as you move the hands a little to the side and touch the hands together again.

"What city do you live (in)?"
CITY YOU LIVE+(WH-question expression)

Another way to sign that would be to sign: YOU LIVE CITY+(WH-Question_expression)

COMMUNITY (version 1)
It is not uncommon to see people sign "city" using a twisting movement -- however there are those who tend to think of this sign as meaning "community" rather than "city or town."
